The USJA/USJF Winter Nationals Coach Certification Clinic will be led by Mark Lonsdale and will take place at Goltz Judo’s Dojo in Claremont.  It will focus on Levels 1 & 2 of the new Coaching program and includes classroom and mat sessions. Successful completion of this clinic will satisfy the USJA/USJF requirements for Coach Certification as well as maintenance of expired or expiring Coach Certification. Letters of Completion will be distributed at end of the clinic.

 Date:              8:30 AM to 5:00 PM; Friday November 30th

 Cost:              $50.00 per person payable to “Goltz Judo” (includes lunch on Friday).  The additional cost to obtain the Coaching Certificate from USJA is $30.00 and the required background screen is $16.00. Certified coaches are encouraged to audit the newly formatted program for $20.00

 Location:      Goltz Judo’s Dojo in the Alexander Hughes Community Center, 1700 Danbury Road, Claremont, CA 91711


8:30 AM: Registration

9:00 AM: Classroom Lectures:

  • The roles & responsibilities of a club coach / instructor
  • Instructor development
  • Student  development & age-appropriate training methods
  • Principles of Learning; Preparing students to learn
  • Teaching Methodologies; Whole-part-Whole 

12:00 – 1: 00 PM:  Working Lunch (provided)

2:00 – 4:00 PM: Mat Session (not physically demanding):

  • Developing demonstration quality technical skills
  • Dynamic versus Static Judo training 
  • Teaching techniques in a logical progression
  • Combinations, linking & transitions to newaza

     4:00 – 5:00 PM: Classroom, Sign coaching forms, final address
