JUDO HISTORY – 1936 BERLIN OLYMPICS

Many will recognize this iconic picture from the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin when Jesse Owens (USA) won four gold medals in track & field, and in the process discredited Hitler’s master race theories.
But standing right in front of Jesse, in the background, is Professor Jigoro Kano, founder of judo and the first Asian member of the Olympic Committee. Judo eventually debuted in the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
